The developments in the case of the murderous attack with a naval flare received by the warden are stormy George Lyggeridis in Rentis in December 2023.

After 4 months of an extensive investigation by Attica security, which was conducted under the utmost secrecy and a “sweep” operation, which was carried out yesterday and included searches of dozens of houses and vehicles, police officers of the sub-directorate for dealing with violence in sports grounds handcuffed 60 people, members criminal organization. who have allegedly been committing felony and misdemeanor offenses since at least 2019.

According to police sources, voluminous case file which has been formed, is more than 3000 pages, includes testimonies, videos, findings – evidence concerning incidents of fan violence beyond the murderous attack of the 31-year-old policeman, while the defendants are 158.

Specifically – always according to the same sources – some of those arrested are said to have participated in the incidents at the matches Volos-Olympiakos, Olympiakos-Aris and Pas Ioannina-Olympiakos.

The big question that remains to be answered by the authorities is who or who are the moral perpetrators of the attack on Rentis that resulted in the fatal injury of Lyggeridis.

Three “key” people are the ones the authorities believe “weaponized” the hands of the hooligans. The “leader” of the association of organized fans, the “Romanian” and the manager of a well-known trapper who was also in December 2023 among the suspects.

The police, however, from the evidence they have collected, are sure that all 3 belong to key leadership roles, while among the rest of the arrested there are the “deputy leaders” as well as the “recruiters” who were tasked with “fishing” young people from the associations and they join the “armies” of hooligans.

DNA from clothes, testimonies, videotape and photographic material but mainly recorded conversations which according to police sources resulted from the declassification of the communications and show the cynical manner of the defendants in terms of what they said on the phone after the attack with flares and molotov cocktails on the platoon in Rentis but also in other serious incidents in matches, burn the accused who will cross the threshold of the prosecutor today.

The news of the arrests was heard by the parents and the sister of the unfortunate chief constable at an event dedicated to his memory and they literally fell into the arms of the men of the platoon in which the 31-year-old served.

The event was held as part of a workshop on the theme “No to violence, yes to sports” and was attended by representatives of political parties, local government and trade union bodies, as well as the leader of ELAS and the Minister of Civil Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis who in his speech assured his father Giorgos Lygerides, that they will not be left alone, while he announced that in collaboration with the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers, there will be, after many years, a review of the network of protection and support – moral and financial – of the victims of violence and terrorism.
