All 2024 E-Transit models benefit from longer service intervals of 2 years / unlimited kilometers
Ford Pro today revealed a new option for the E-Transit with an Extended Range battery, enhancing the capabilities of Europe’s most popular large electric van, which last year recorded five times more sales than its nearest competitor.
The new family member – which will be available to customers worldwide – leverages Ford Pro’s digital productivity upgrades across the entire 2024 Transit range, broadening the E-Transit’s potential customer base. The new version has a battery with a useful capacity of 89 kWh, which ensures a maximum range of up to 402 km, as well as faster AC and DC charging. Customers also benefit from longer service intervals of 2 years / unlimited kilometers – which is double the current 1 year interval.
As with all business models in the E-Transit series, the Extended Range Edition is fully integrated with Ford Pro’s platform of connected charging solutions and software, aiming to help customers not only optimize energy management and maintenance processes, but and minimize downtime and cost of ownership.
“The new Extended Range version of the E-Transit is yet another example of Ford Pro’s commitment to making high-performance electric vehicle fleets a reality across Europe,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “By offering customers the ability to travel more miles between charges, along with a wide range of body types and support from the connected Ford Pro ecosystem, we strengthen our position as a trusted partner providing complete corporate fleet solutions.”
The E-Transit Extended Range is particularly aimed at customers operating in rural areas, in colder climates or on routes that include highway driving, while also offering retrofitted vehicle owners more options in terms of cargo capacity and added utility. electric power.
Customers will be able to order the new E-Transit Extended Range later this year, with first deliveries expected in 2025.
Improved electrical performance
The Extended Range version of E-Transit it has a battery with a higher capacity at 89 kWh ensuring autonomy up to 402 km – increased by 28% compared to the “Standard Capacity” battery version. The increased range makes the Extended Range version of the E-Transit a highly attractive option for fleet managers who operate beyond city centers but still benefit from the increased productivity of all-electric, connected commercial vehicles.
THE steam injection heat pump is standard in the new Extended Range version, so as to achieve more efficient heating of the cabin at low temperatures. The system is similar to that of the E-Transit Custom – the first electric vehicle to use this technology – and is designed to enhance energy efficiency and optimize range in colder weather conditions.
Ford engineers have significantly improve the charging capabilities of the E-Transit for all versions equipped with the new “Extended Capacity” battery.
More specifically, the maximum AC charging power has been increased from 11 kW to 22 kW, which means that a full overnight charge will take less than 6 hours. At the same time, the maximum DC fast charging power has increased from 115 kW to 180 kWresulting in 10 minutes being enough to add electricity to cover up to 116 km. Also, charging 10-80% now takes approx 28 minutes.
Ford Pro’s comprehensive solutions for warehouse, home and public charging include hardware installation and maintenance, as well as intelligent software that helps customers manage charging for optimal efficiency and uptime. Also, fleet managers they can easily monitor the performance of the charging process and energy efficiency for each of their vehicles using Ford ProTelematics software, as well as set their desired “charging windows” to take advantage of cheaper energy tariffs, lock chargers to prevent unauthorized use, and prepare the E-Transit’s battery to further optimize range
In addition to optimizing energy management, fleet managers can also monitor their entire fleet through a Ford Pro Telematics information system, which is compatible for fleets that include electric, plug-in hybrid and conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. combustion, as well as models that do not belong to the Ford range. The tools provided by Ford Pro can also help customers quickly identify which vehicle use cases in their business could be replaced with electric Transit models.
Ford Pro believes that the increased capabilities of the E-Transit Extended Range will appeal to a wide range of customers with varying demands and needs. For this reason, Ford Pro offers a comprehensive range of 19 variations of the model, including versions with L3 and L4 lengths and van and single chassis cab bodies, with a gross vehicle weight (GVM) of 3,500 kg to 4,250 kg. The maximum payload reaches 1,460 kg for van models and 1,814 kg for chassis cabs. For models with a gross weight of 3,500 kg, the towing weight is up to 750 kg. Pro Power Onboard is also available, providing 2.3kW of electrical power from the vehicle’s battery to operate tools, equipment and more.
The new E-Transit Extended Range benefits from the same digital features that boost productivity and announced by Ford Pro for the entire 2024 Transit range: These include;
• 5G modem as standard for ultra-fast connectivity on the go
• Ability to wirelessly update software for multiple vehicle units
• Innovative new Vehicle Integration System to control conversions via the SYNC screen
• Alexa Built-in personal AI
• Delivery Assist technology, which is designed to save up to 20 seconds per stop – more than an hour a day
In addition, both the ‘Standard Range’ and the corresponding ‘Extended Range’ versions of the 2024 E-Transit model range benefit from the new 2 year / unlimited kilometer service interval, which helps reduce the cost of ownership of businesses. This is a significant upgrade over the current 1 year / unlimited mileage that was in place until now.
Since the model’s launch in June 2022, the E-Transit is the best-selling two-tonne electric van in Europe, capturing over 55% market share in 2023.
