1810: Beethoven completes his famous piano composition ‘Fur Elise’.

1875: Charilaos Trikoupis assumes the government of Greece for the first time.

1894: A strong earthquake, measuring 7 on the Richter scale and 10 on the Mercali scale, occurred at 7:21 p.m. with a focus on Agios Konstantinos Fthiotidas. 255 people are killed and 3,783 houses collapse in 69 settlements, while a 3-meter-high tsunami occurs, which penetrates one kilometer inland.

1908: Opening ceremony of the 4th modern Olympic Games in London. They will last 6 months until October 31 and hold the record for the longest. 1,999 athletes and 36 athletes are participating.

1941: German troops occupy Athens.

1952

The Pan-Cypriot National Assembly in Nicosia approves a resolution for the union of Cyprus with Greece.

According to the data of the World Economic Forum of Davos that are given to the public, Greece is in the last position of competitiveness among the countries of the European Union and among the last in comparison with the accession countries.
