1919 GREEK LANDING IN SMYRNA
The Greek troops land in Smyrna. People and army had become one, while emotion and enthusiasm overflowed from both sides. A large number of barges had been assembled along the Smyrna quay, in order to effect the speedy disembarkation of the troops.
Prayers of “G. Averof” tried in vain to enable the movement of the troops along the coastal road, as the whole waterfront of Smyrna, from the telegraph office to Punta, presented the appearance of a camp. In front of the Hunting Club stood the Metropolitan of Smyrna Chrysostomos together with the holy clergy and blessed the disembarking military units.
