Everything is ready for this year’s performance of his custom rocket warfare, with thousands of visitors flocking to Chios to witness the unique custom on Holy Saturday night.

This year, according to the deputy mayor of Homeropolis, Petros Mathioudis, the planning was done from the beginning while the wires that cover the houses and the parishes of Agios Markos and Panagia Erithiani were replaced almost in their entirety.

The measures and the conduct

Regarding the conduct of the custom, as reported by potilischios.gr, the roads for visitors will be closed at 19:30, with traffic being conducted exclusively for permanent residents.

The goal, Mr. Mathioudis explained, is for the roads to be open so that emergency vehicles such as the Fire Brigade and the Emergency Services can pass unhindered.

At the same time, in addition to the lawnmowers in the fields around the two parishes, additional taps will be placed outside the churches, while the Municipality will make fire extinguishers available to those who wish to collect them for use at the rocket launch points.

Regarding the attendance of the worshipers, the crews will take breaks from throwing at 10:45 and shortly after 12 midnight so that the worshipers can enter and leave the churches safely.

The next day

Asked about the day after the custom, the deputy mayor pointed out that the removal of the rocket sticks will take place from the same evening of Holy Saturday with the aim of cleaning the parishes and streets as soon as possible, while the recording of any damage to houses will begin immediately after the New Tuesday.

It should be noted, however, that the greatest fear concerns mainly the area of Aipus for fires from “stray rockets” and flares.
