Applications reached 20,299 this year
The upcoming week the admission exams to the Standard schools will be held, as well as the public lottery for admission to the Experimental ones. In total, there are 4,797 vacancies for admissions nationwide: 3,003 are for Experimental schools and 1,794 for Standards.
This year, the number of available places, as well as the number of applications for admission to these schools, has increased significantly compared to previous years. More specifically, according to sources from the Ministry of Education, a total of 20,299 applications were submitted. Of these, 10,845 places concern the filling of the 3,003 places of the Experimental schools and 9,454 applications concern the admission to the Standard schools and the filling of 1,794 places.
“The numbers of applications for a place in a Model or Experimental school reflect the confidence of students and parents in the renewed and dynamic institution and convey the messages of society and its expectations from the public education system,” said to APE-MPE the Zetta Makri, Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sportsresponsible for Primary, Secondary Education and Special Education.
“The steep increase in interest, nationwide, strengthens our vision for a modern, competitive and extroverted Education, which will give children supplies, skills and knowledge with a reflection on the world stage”, he added.
“We believe in the institution of Model and Experimental schools of all grades and in the multi-level potential of these types of schools. We have proceeded dynamically to expand the network of Model and Experimental Schools in the country and we continue, so that even more schools, from end to end throughout Greece, will join a core, which designs and implements innovative, differentiated educational methods, with the aim of optimizing of the quality of the educational and pedagogical work provided”, he concluded.
The final allocation of Standard and Ecclesiastical school candidates to examination centers, as well as their information about the examination center in which they will be examined, will be done through the electronic application system and via sms on May 14 and 15 and will be posted on the website of each examination center.
Parents must then check and print their application to present on the day of the exams together with proof of identity (police ID for those candidates over 12 years, ID from KEP for candidates under 12 or passport for all applicants).
It is recalled that the date of the public lottery for admission to the Experimental Schools and the performance of the random Priority Number, in case of a tie in the Standard Schools, is Friday, May 17, 2024.
Regarding the admission to the Standards, the exams for the admission of the students to the entrance classes (A’ Gymnasium/A’ Lyceum) of the Standards and to the A’ Gymnasium/A’ Lyceum classes of the Church schools will be held on Saturday, May 18.
As is already known, the prospective students will be assessed in two academic subjects, language and mathematics. Assessment questions will be closed-ended/multiple choice. Candidates for Church Schools will be additionally examined in the religion course.
According to the ministry, students will be assessed on skills acquired during their studies in Primary School or High School, as the case may be, related to the understanding of Greek language texts and mathematical concepts, and they are not required to have studied specific material to prepare for their participation in said test.
In more detail, regarding the distribution of places, the 3,000 places in the Experimental schools concern 472 places in kindergartens, 905 in primary schools, 1,212 in middle schools and 411 in high schools. The 1,800 positions of the standards concern 1,575 high school and 225 high school positions.
The Application System has been developed by the Steering Committee of Model and Experimental Schools (DEPPS) with the support of the Institute of Education Policy (IEP). The design, implementation, management, operation and application of its electronic lottery software as well as the software for extracting the results for each Experimental School has been developed by the Institute of Computer Technology & Publications (ITYE) – “Diofantos”.
