The bones were received with all due military honors
The remains of eight Greek infantrymen who were killed in Cyprus and had been declared missing were repatriated today, in the presence of the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias.
The eight hoplites were killed between 1963 and 1974 while serving in the Greek Cypriot Force.
The reception of the remains at the repatriation ceremony took place with all the prescribed military honors at the Elefsina Air Base.
According to information from “K”, these are the bones of eight reservists: Infantry Second Lieutenant Konstantinos Tsagkalidis, Transfers Second Lieutenant Georgios Analytis, Infantry Second Lieutenants Anastasios Kratemenou, Panagiotis Iliopoulos, Konstantinos Tsitiridis, Georgios Martzaklis and Ilias Toulis and Commando Second Lieutenant Ioannis Iliopoulos.
According to information, the ossuary will remain for a short time in the Elefsina cemetery.
Afterwards, the remains will be buried in the places of origin of the Hoplites by their relatives, in cooperation with the local military formations.
The burials will take place in Megaplatanos Pella, Kaisariani, Gortynia, Ano Liosia, Krya Vrysi Pella, Heraklion Crete, Erymanthos Achaia and Kyparissia.
