Open call to everyone for the protest gathering at 7:30 pm on Monday (3/6) at the port for the interruption of the services from Agios Konstantinos to Sporades
His local community is in turmoil Saint Constantinebut also of all of Fthiotida, from the sudden decision to stop the sea routes from the port of Lokris to the islands of Sporades.
The suspension of the coastal ferry routes took place at the beginning of the summer and after the recent opening of the new port of Agios Konstantinos, which while one would expect the port to be upgraded, on the contrary it is being degraded with significant effects on the local economy, in a very difficult time.
“The citizens of this place are FIGHTING! For this reason, we extend an open invitation to all those who want to support our requests to attend the gathering that will take place in the port of Agios Konstantinos on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 7:30 p.m….”, they state in their joint statement the Associations of Saint Constantine.

“It is with great regret that we were informed by the Mass Media that for the first time in the annals of our country, which marks the 180th anniversary of its establishment this year, the boat routes that connected our historic port with the Northern Sporades have ceased. According to the official response of the Ministry of Shipping & Insular Policy, the reason that prevented the presence of a particular shipping company from carrying out this year’s itineraries was the complaints of a negligible number of local residents and professionals. Complaints that in no way represent the entirety of the residents and the
professionals. Did these reasons arise now? For so many years that this particular line has been in use, why has there never been a problem? The dimension given to the matter clearly leads to the discouragement of other interested companies and consequently to finding a solution. So we wonder why the inauguration of 23/11/2023 in the presence of the Prime Minister as well as many other officials took place in the end? The statements of Mr. Mitsotakis himself, who spoke about a port of pivotal importance, whose traffic had increased in the previous year and would be a potential destination for large and small cruise ships, ultimately fell on deaf ears? therefore, the professionals and residents of Agios Konstantinos receive yet another crucial blow. A blow that disrupts the very identity of our place, which has been linked to the sea since ancient times, but also our image as a popular destination in the minds of millions of tourists whose presence is a source of life for the local market, for the wider region and its inhabitants in general.
Therefore, in the context of this unfavorable development for our country, we firmly believe that the state must help in finding an appropriate solution. We believe that one solution that would be an incentive for shipping companies to invest in a route to the Northern Sporades would be the restoration of the barren line that connected Agios Konstantinos to Lemnos and in the past contributed to the economic development of the areas involved.
The citizens of this place are FIGHTING! For this reason, we extend an open invitation to all those who want to support our requests to attend the gathering that will take place in the port of Agios Konstantinos on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 19:30.
Yours sincerely,
The Boards of the Associations of Agios Konstantinos”
