More than 40 cases of gastroenteritis, of all ages and both sexes, have been recorded in residents of the Rizomylos and Stefanovikiou regions of Magnesia, with the date of occurrence of the phenomenon being placed on 5/27/24.
Among them are seven children who are hospitalized in the pediatric clinic, while an elderly person with underlying diseases is hospitalized in the ICU of the Volos hospital. These are residents of the areas in question whose connection to the phenomenon is being investigated.
With reference to the laboratory control of the clinical samples, a stool sample taken from a patient who came to the Velestino Hospital and was sent to the Thessaly Hospital is positive for Salmonella.
Laboratory testing of clinical samples is also underway at the GN Volos.

On 31/05/2024 the Department of Health Control and Environmental Hygiene (TYEPY) of the Magnesia PE went to the areas for sanitary identification of the water supply network, took water samples from representative points of the water supply network and sent them to the Thessaly PEDY for laboratory control.
According to the preliminary results of the laboratory control of the water samples, there are indications of microbiological burden, with a possible etiology related to works in the water supply network, which is further investigated. However, laboratory testing of water samples will be completed for any official findings in the coming days, reports EODY.
The EODY and the PEDY of Thessaly are investigating the outbreak of cases and, in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Health and Social Care and the TYEPY of the PE of Magnesia, informed the Municipality of Riga Feraou on 31/05/2024 about the phenomenon. DEYA Riga Feraiu issued a notice to the citizens regarding the non-use of water network water for human consumption. On Monday 3/6/2024, an additional team of the EODY is moving to the area in order to strengthen the further laboratory and epidemiological investigation.
EODY recommends strict adherence to personal hygiene measures to avoid secondary transmission of the disease. DEYA has launched measures to clean up the water supply network. The investigation is ongoing.
It should be noted that the outbreak of cases has nothing to do with the bad weather Daniel.
