The story of the 29-year-old girl with severe psychological problems in Kalamata – whose parents have her in a makeshift “cage” in their house, because no one has helped them all these years – has moved the whole of Greece.
As the girl’s mother complains – who adopted the 29-year-old when she was an infant from “Mother” – for years, since 2017, she has addressed the competent authorities and agencies about her daughter’s problems, but no one listened to her .
So, to protect the 29-year-old from harming those around her as well as herself – he was forced to confine her inside the house, making a makeshift wooden “cage” in her room.
When the girl goes out into the garden, she is also “imprisoned” there, in an area fenced off with barbed wire, as the only means of preventing her aggressive behavior and self-harm.
“We need help, we don’t have her in a ‘cage’ but we have no other way, it’s for her safety” protests her mother.
