At a rough estimate, around 35,000 spectators marveled, enjoyed and left, many after sunset which was the spectacular, romantic finale of this motoring romance.
It was a super spectacle, it was a super production, it was a unique fiesta but no one understood if it was the 250 classic cars that stole the show or if the show was the largest crowd that overwhelmed the Alimos coastal promenade.
At a rough estimate, around 35,000 spectators marveled, enjoyed and left, many even after the sunset which was also the spectacular, romantic finale of this motorized romance. And while many cars had left, a crowd of people stayed until late, listening to music.
Early in the morning of Sunday, May 26, the unique collector’s pieces of the Hellenic Automobile Museum (a Jaguar E-Type and a rare Fiat) and unique vehicles of Ariantique as well as many private individuals, with impressive presences from the distant past, entered the special Very Important Car area , on the rich grass where the historical and future classics were hosted, with a “thunder” from Paris Iliadis’ Ferrari and Lamborghini, while PPC blue made sure that the visitors could see the old classic Isetta in the company of the sparkling modern electric one, the unforgettable Fiat 500 with its current electric descendant.
All sorts of models and… ages, however, spilled out along the entire length of the boardwalk, into the amphitheater and onto the surrounding grass, offering unique selfie-opportunity images for the delight of thousands of camera lenses. Spectators took photos furiously, and it is estimated that over 150,000 selfies were taken during the 6 hours, while the two “invisible” drones of the organization caught unique moments outside and inside the wonderful classics. By noon, many families with children had set up the essentials for a unique picnic among Rolls, Bentleys, Jaguars, Ferraris, Lamborghinis…
Excellent host, as always, the mayor of Alimos, Andreas Kondylis, moved between television cameras, live connections and his thousands of “guests” and declared: “Both the participation of classical masterpieces and visitors was greater than our expectations. Alimos hosted over 35,000 visitors who came from early in the morning, for a wonderful Sunday. The ACCS, which started six years ago as an attempt to revive the big events for four-wheeled, valuable “antiques”, has become an institution and now holds the record of our country for the most participations and the largest number of spectators. Under the “baguette” of Nikos Mastorakis, the harmony of colors, sounds, flavors and the sea was flawless and wonderful.”
Immovable Nikos Mastorakis, initiator and organizer of this largest “static” exhibition of classic cars in the country, had taken care of every detail from his “headquarters” in Sine Alimos and said: “All the “bravos” we got from drivers and spectators, the I share with worthy and tireless partners who this year surpassed themselves, a group of volunteers but also all the Clubs, old and new, who brought their best cars, experience and knowledge. Nothing would have been possible without the inspiring presence of the mayor Andreas Kondylis and the natural beauty of the coastal promenade of Alimos. It’s one of those times when “theatre” equals “spectacle.”
So I believe that the sight on the “grass” of the VIC (Very Important Car) but also of the surrounding hundreds of wonderful cars, was something that
the average Greek had never seen. From tomorrow we are preparing ACCS VI which will be even more impressive and with… a treasure hunt for the drivers.”
The visual pleasure of the visitors was complemented by the greatest hits of the 60’s selected by Radio Gold, so many crossed the pedestrian street… dancing!
The smell of freshly grilled cheeseburgers and hot dogs spread for miles, the hungry found the prices that the organization had agreed with the Volks Bar providers to be comfortingly low, while the “thirsty” drank their mojito or a frozen freddo.
“Fiesta with everything” characterized the event by the drivers who took part and who all got caps and souvenir gifts, while the visitors got beautiful souvenirs at ridiculous prices in the newly built Gift Shop on the pedestrian street.
At the end of this colorful happening, the mayor gave the prizes to the cars and there was a live raffle for a Sunday with the municipality’s Rolls Royce, with the lucky number 394. The committee gave the prizes: Most beautiful car, the 1955 Ford Fairlane of Edward Norouznia, the best historical Mercedes 280 SE of 1970 by Christos Georgiou, (both members of SISPA) but the most beautiful future classic was the yellow Lamborghini 2005 from the collection of Paris Iliadis.
Both the mayor and Nikos Mastorakis expect that next year the entries will exceed 300 cars, in a new and… interactive, for the participants, ACCS VI, giving an appointment on the last Sunday of May.
