Euroferry Olympia fire: Two more bodies found – At 8 dead

Two more bodies were found in the third garage of the passenger car ferry Euroferry Olympia, which has been towed to the port of Astakos, while earlier today a body of a man was found inside the second garage of the ship.

The death toll from the fire that broke out on the third deck of the ship in the early hours of Friday 18/02 in the sea area northeast of Ereikousa during the execution of its scheduled route from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi, rose to 8 while 3 more people were carrying are ignored. The number of people rescued from the ship is 281.

The investigations by EMAK men inside the ship continue while from the morning efforts are made for the opening of the ship’s catapult in order to start the removal of the burned trucks and cars.

At the same time, charcoal or burns are the causes of death, according to the forensic examination carried out on the four bodies that were retrieved from the passenger-vehicle ferry “Euroferry Olympia”, which has been towed to the port of Platygiali, in Etoloakarna.

As the head of the Forensic Medicine Service of Patras, Angeliki Tsiola, told the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, “yesterday and today the forensic examination was completed on the four bodies that were transferred to Patras and as it was found the cause of death was different for each body.”

As he explained, “some bodies were charred and others had burns.”

Also, as he said, “one body was identified and received today for burial, while the other three are not recognizable”.
