Anxiety is intensifying for the 74-year-old Dutch tourist, traces of which were lost yesterday afternoon from the area of Limniona Samos after he decided to go hiking.

As the extensive detection and dissemination operation with the participation of volunteers, pedestrian units of the Samos Fire Services, the Hellenic Police and the Samos Branch of the Hellenic Dissemination Team with a specially trained dog, remains fruitless, hopes to locate the unfortunate man alive, begin to “go out”.

According to information from skai.gr research teams have so far been unable to detect any signs of life.

The same information points out that the radius of the investigations is as wide as possible.

The rescuers are “combing” the west of the island, but again it cannot be ruled out that there will not be areas left unexplored as it is a large area with difficult routes and paths that could disorient even locals.

Besides, as they typically report, the 74-year-old, a lover of routes, could have many different possibilities starting from Limniona and be located anywhere.

However, it is noted that they have already flown over the area drones in order to “map” the area with visual material.

The 74-year-old, according to the descriptions, was in very good physical condition and had gone to the island for a holiday with his wife who, however, was not a fan of sports and did not accompany him on his excursions.

According to testimonies, the 74-year-old had left the rented rooms where he was staying, early in the morning.

His husband tried to contact him at about 2:00 p.m., with her calls going unanswered and then the cell phone shutting down.

The last recording of his cell phone verse, unfortunately, cannot help the investigations as it was made at 10 in the morning at a point close to his starting point.

Besides, many areas and distances, from this point onwards, are not covered by the mobile telephony signal.

As it has become known, the 74-year-old wished to visit a certain isolated church at a considerable distance from his place of residence.

Based on the data, the rescuers estimate that the particularly demanding route and the adverse conditions that prevailed with the very high temperature on the island possibly made it impossible for him to complete his course with the result that he tried to turn back and got lost by choosing the wrong paths.
