Vatutin: “The political situation does not allow the Euroleague to change position for Russia”

by

For more than 2 years now, since the war broke out between Russia and Ukrainethe Russian teams have been expelled from the Euroleagueeven the CSKA Moscow which is one of the main shareholders of the organization.

In fact, a strong man of the “bear”, Andrei Vatutingave an interview to the country’s Media and emphasized that the return of Russian clubs to Euroleague remains a remote possibility based on the current political situation.

In detail what he said:

I can’t say anything new compared to previous statements on this matter. There is the position expressed by the leadership of the EuroLeague: as long as the special operation (ie the war) continues, such a thing is out of the question. Based on this narrative, the essential decisions are not visible.

Nevertheless, we try to maintain the level of organization of the club at the level of the highest standards and, as shareholders, we continue to work in all Euroleague committees and meetings and maintain full contact with colleagues.

In private conversations, European colleagues, not to mention ordinary fans, have noted more than once or twice that without CSKA the EuroLeague has lost a lot. But the political situation as a whole does not yet allow the organizing authority to change its position on Russia.
