In the decision to close schools Primary Educationfor the period during which heat conditions will prevail, municipal authorities in Northern Greece are proceeding.

By decision of the mayor of Ampelokipi-Menemeni, Lazaros Kyrizoglou, the operation of the primary schools and kindergartens of the municipality, in western Thessaloniki, is temporarily interrupted for Wednesday and Thursday, June 12 and 13, due to the extraordinary weather conditions. As stated in a relevant announcement from the municipality, the heat makes it difficult for young students to access and stay in the classrooms.

In the municipality of Kordelio – Evosmou, it was decided that all primary schools will operate tomorrow and Thursday until 11:30 in the morning, while all-day schools will not operate.

In the municipality of Lagada, in Thessaloniki, the mayor Niki Andreadou decided to temporarily suspend the operation of kindergartens and primary schools, for Wednesday, June 12, from 11 am until the end of the daily schedule due to the heat.

Also, in Naoussa, by the decision of the mayor, Nikos Koutsoyiannis, tomorrow (Wednesday), primary education schools (kindergartens and primary schools) and the Naoussa EEEEK will close at 12 noon, due to the high temperatures affecting the country.

In the municipality of Veria, the opening hours of the primary education units are modified and the students’ departure time from the classrooms is set for Wednesday and Thursday, June 12 and 13, at 11:30 in the morning.

In the municipality of Serres, the operation of the all-day shift of kindergartens, elementary schools, special kindergartens and special elementary schools is suspended until Thursday, June 13. With regard to the operation of the kindergartens, KDAP and KDAPmeA, the municipality points out that they will operate normally, since the attendance of children is optional due to the non-compulsory nature of this education.

In addition, all-day primary schools and kindergartens in the municipalities of Sintiki and Heraklia in the prefecture of Serres will remain closed until Thursday, June 13.

“In communication with the mayors, we are making sure as much as possible that family planning is not disrupted, bearing in mind the safety of the students and the protection of their health,” the regional director of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia, Alexandros Koptsis, told APE-MPE .

Regarding secondary education, Mr. Koptsis, who today visited school units and examination and grading centers in western Thessaloniki – tomorrow he will carry out a corresponding inspection in secondary schools in eastern Thessaloniki – assured that all measures are being taken to smooth conduct of the promotional and nationwide exams.

As he clarified, air conditioners are operating in all the school units of the Eastern Thessaloniki Directorate of Education and in some cases in Western Thessaloniki where there are none, additional fans are sent, while shady and cool rooms are chosen and the schools have been supplied with water and juices to be made available to the students.
