The request to exclude a judge who was not drawn, but “appointed” to the composition of the court that would hear the appeal of Fredis Beleris, was rejected. The request was submitted by the lawyer of the elected ND MEP, who remains incarcerated in Albanian prisons.

“Judicial Coup”

It is recalled that the court would discuss the appeal filed by Fr. Beleris against his conviction on charges of buying votes in the local municipal elections a year ago, which in his statements on Wednesday he described as false and politically motivated.

As can be seen from the videos and photos he secured skai.gr from inside the courtroom, the proceedings are conducted in a tense atmosphere with the anxiety reflected on the face of the ND MEP and elected mayor of Heimarra.

The defense spoke of a “judicial coup”, as the composition of the court includes Mrs. Sirka, who has tried Fr. Beleri a total of 3 times. In addition, the defense spoke of a “perforated indictment”, with many irregularities present in the case file, highlighting:

“A team of 20 specially trained police officers left Tirana, did the work of tracking and arresting and have not produced a single piece of evidence.”

As decided, the trial will continue on June 25where the final decision of the court is expected.

Speaking to SKAI yesterday, Beleris said:

“The only fair decision would be my acquittal. No country in Europe would withstand such an indictment.” While waiting for today’s trial of the case, he emphasized that he has no illusions about what will happen as, as he says, he knows that the judicial system of Albania is controlled by Edi Rama.”
