The president of the Athens Bar Association, Dimitris Vervesos, brought disciplinary proceedings against lawyer Apostolos Lytras for violation of criminal law.

In particular, Mr. Vervesos practiced ex officio disciplinary actionas required by the Code of Lawyers, at the expense of the criminal lawyer, after the official information he received from the Athens District Attorney’s Office, that criminal proceedings were initiated against Apostolos Lytras in the degree of felony for domestic violence against his wife, who is also a lawyer.

Consequently, the case will now be investigated directly by the Primary disciplinary council of the Athens Bar Association and the preliminary disciplinary investigation ordered by Mr. Vervessos against the president of the primary disciplinary board of the Athens Bar Association, Zisi Konstantinou, becomes irrelevant and stops.

It is noted that earlier the president and the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court ordered an urgent preliminary disciplinary investigation for potential responsibilities of judicial and prosecutorial officials, regarding their actions at the pre-trial stage, i.e. their decision to release Apostolos Lytras despite the criminal nature of the act he confessed to.

The well-known criminologist was released after pleading guilty to beating his wife. In particular, after the completion of today’s apology to the investigator, Apostolos Lytras, who is facing a charge of grievous bodily harm, a felony for the brutal beating of his wife, also a lawyer, was released with the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor imposing restrictive conditions not to approach him the victim.

The conditions imposed are an obligation to move out of the shared house where he lives with his wife, a prohibition not to approach her and an obligation to attend a special psychological support program
