According to magnesianews, the fire that broke out at the boundaries of the village of Gavriani, in the mountains of Almyros, was brought under partial control at approximately 6:00 p.m.

The mayor of Almyros decided earlier to evacuate the village, as did the Civil Protection as the flames were very close to the houses.

The fire broke out at 4 in the afternoon, in a forest, the first vehicles and firefighters of the Drymons Range arrived at 16.15 and threw themselves into the battle with the flames, while gradually 50 firefighters arrived in the area and tried, with 1 group of pedestrians, 19 vehicles, 4 aircraft and 2 helicopters.

Fortunately, the direction of the wind changed at some point and air assets and ground forces were able to bring it under partial control two hours later, after burning about 10 hectares of forest.
Although the fire has been extinguished, strong fire-fighting forces remain at the scene, because there is a fear of a rekindling, while the residents are returning to the village in buses from the Municipality.
