At least 41 agroforestry fires broke out between yesterday 6pm and today 6pm according to the Fire Department.

Of these, 37 were dealt with directly, in their initial stage, while the fire brigade is dealing with four more.

The local investigative offices, as well as its Echelons Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

At the same time, as it became known from the Fire Department, a man was arrested in Agrinio, while two others in Kavala and Attiki were imposed administrative fines.

In more detail:

-He was arrested on June 21, 2024, as part of the spontaneous procedure, by investigative officers of the P.Y. Agriniou, citizen, for fires in rural areas that spread to forest land, in violation of the existing legislation, in the areas of T.K. Gouriotissas and Riganis, in the Municipality of Agrini, in Etoloakarnania and the relevant prosecutor was informed.

An administrative fine of 1,875 Euros was imposed, yesterday, June 22, 2024, by investigative officers of the P.Y. Chrysoupolis, in a rural area, who used a cooking device within a forest area, in violation of the current legislation, in the settlement of Keramotis, in the Municipality of Nestos, in Kavala.

An administrative fine of 3,000 Euros was imposed today, June 23, 2024, by investigative officers of the P.Y. Markopoulou, a resident, who burned fireworks (flarexes) near a forested area, in violation of the current legislation, on the beach of Agios Nikolaos, in the Municipality of Spata – Artemis, in Attica.
