A major firefighting operation is underway – The terrain and winds make the firefighting work difficult
A major operation of the Heraklion Fire Service is underway to extinguish a fire that has broken out in a forest area of the Municipality of Gortyna, near Agioi Deka.
40 firefighters with 13 vehicles are already working at the scene, and the force is increasing, while airdrops are also being made.

According to the mandated regional advisor for Civil Protection Matters of the Region of Crete in Heraklion, Yannis Leontarakis, the technical means of the Region of Crete are ready to contribute to the extinguishing operation.
As Mr. Leontarakis mentioned, the work of firefighting is not easy, due to both the topography of the area and the winds.
