Signs that they are being rented out to tourists by some local business – “Not enough staff” says the management body
An uproar has been caused by complaints from citizens about the National Park of Kotychi – Strofilias in Achaia, according to which every weekend the sandy beaches of Kalogria, Samaraika, Falari and Kounoupelaki are turned into a track for 4×4.
Locals with farms and visitors with jeeps drive whole kilometers through the (protected) dunes, destroying the (protected) coastal vegetation, to experience the adventure.
In fact, according to testimonies available to “K”, specific jeeps without license plates appear repeatedly but with different passengers, a clear indication that they are rented to tourists by a local business.
“They have been seen moving along the entire length of the coastal zone from Achaia (Kalogria beach) to Ilia with different passengers. They have also seen them “sticking” to the sand and a whole operation is done with tractors for towing”, citizens from the area report.
According to the correspondent of SKAI, Christos Stratoulakos, even bathers go down to the beach with their car and park it on the sand dunes.
The officials of the management body report that there are not enough personnel to monitor the protection of the National Park, especially during the summer season when the karetta-caretta breeding takes place on the beaches there.
