Recruitment of 10,000 teachers from the new school term at all levels of school education, announced the ministries of Interior and Education.

The recruitments concern permanent teaching staff positions, in all specialties.

The 10,000 new permanent appointment positions from ASEP’s final tables are structured as follows:

  • 4,451 positions to be filled based on the fiscal rule one hire for one departure (4,050 departures of permanent teachers and members of Special Education and Special Support Staff after the end of the 2023-2024 school year, and 401 already existing vacancies due to departures of permanent teaching staff during the school year year 2022-2023).
  • 5,549 additional positions, as after studying the data there is a need to fill gaps. The total cost of covering the new positions, amounting to 110 million euros, will be covered exclusively by national resources that have been allocated up to now for the recruitment of substitutes.

The permanent coverage of 10,000 places contributes decisively to the creation of a stable core in the public education system and is a basic condition for further investment in human capital through targeted training. The upgrading of the provided public education requires a coherent framework and a holistic response to the needs that are identified horizontally at all levels of school education.

In this direction, appointments will be made with an emphasis on:

  1. in special education, where more than four times as many specialized positions in primary and secondary education will be filled as compared to the previous year, and eight times as many Special Educational and Special Auxiliary Staff positions in all specialties, given that last year the appointments concerned only psychologists and social workers
  2. in the specialties of primary education, since five times more teachers than last year are placed in existing and newly established specialist positions, while in total in primary education the appointments will exceed 2,800.
  3. to meet the needs of secondary education, where more than 5,000 recruitments will be made in all specialties.

The exact number of appointments per specialty will be determined in the near future, before the start of the new school year. The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis he said: “Investing in public education is the most profitable investment that a modern state can make. Our country has no time to waste and must proceed to reform cuts as soon as possible. we have a duty to offer our children the highest possible quality of public education, while we owe it to teachers, the backbone of
of our educational system, a stable working environment where they can develop and carry out their work seamlessly. In collaboration with the Ministries of Interior and National Economy and Finance, we have created the space to proceed with the highest number of permanent appointments in recent years, and we pledge that we will continue to do this with all our strength.”
The Minister of the Interior Theodoris Livanios stated in this regard: “Public Education is a first priority for the Government. The support of our schools, with the appointment of permanent teachers, is a necessary condition and one
a self-evident step to offer better educational conditions for students of all levels, but at the same time for teachers to have the opportunity to devote themselves to their teaching work”.
The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis underlined: “The announcement of 10,000 appointments in education proves in practice the importance that the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis attaches to the strengthening of public Education. We continue to implement all our commitments towards our fellow citizens, especially towards teachers, families, the new generation, the young men and women who are the future of the country”.
