With a prison sentence of 6 months, the Autonomous Single-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki sentenced the 45-year-old who threatened to “slaughter» his 32-year-old partner, when she asked him for a divorce.

The court found him guilty of domestic threat, with a finding of mitigation (prior cohabitation), while acquitting him on formal grounds of the offense of insult (due to lack of parole).

He decided to suspend the sentence under the conditions of not committing a new offense against the victim and to attend an alcohol rehab program, as he was reported to be a daily drinker.

I asked him to break up, to leave the house. It’s my right, I don’t want him in my life” testified the 32-year-old describing the incident a few days ago that led to the arrest of the 45-year-old, with whom she has two minor children.

He grabbed me by the neck and when I started to scream, he slapped me hardshe continued, pointing out that because of the frequent fights, she is afraid that he will harm her. She added that during her pregnancy with their first child he used violence against her and for this reason she sued him then.

The 45-year-old, for his part, admitted that in recent years there have been frequent tensions due to financial problems and attributed the disputed incident to “bad timing”, apologizing to the 32-year-old.

I may have said on my nerves “I’m going to slaughter you, I’m going to kill you”. I was tired. But I didn’t see her afraid. If she was afraid she wouldn’t have a second child with me“, he apologized.
