The special logarithm of AADE “hit red” – Two companies were selling mobile phones and pocketing hundreds of millions of euros, without declaring them
One large tax evasion ring through mobile phone trade the auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority found.
The special logarithm of AADE “hit red”, and led them to two companies, which sold mobile phones and pocketed hundreds of millions of euros, without declaring them.
After the alarm of the logarithm, the auditors proceeded to a triple cross-check of the data from the market place, through which the companies made the sales, myDATA and VIES, i.e. the system of intra-Community transactions.
What did they find?
That, in 2017 and 2018, the specific businesses declared virtual intra-community transactions. That is, they had their products available within Greece, without issuing a tax document, while at the same time, by issuing virtual documents, they declared for the same products intra-Community delivery to warehouses, which they kept outside of Greece, thus avoiding the return of VAT.
Upon completion of the audit, the entities in question were assessed taxes and fines of a total amount 54.2 million euros and 76 million euros.
A similar practice was applied by a third company, but on a much smaller scale. She was fined 320,000 euros.
The audit continues both in the remaining uses of the three companies, as well as in other companies that sell mobile phones through market places and other platforms.
