“The multiple book will be introduced, that is, the ability of a teacher to choose from a list of specific books to teach the course”, Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized
The change of all books and the introduction of “multiple books, as the possibility of choosing from more than one book” into school education was announced by the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis speaking to MEGA.
“All the books in school education will change. The multiple book will be introduced, that is, the ability of a teacher to choose from a list of specific books to teach the course, a choice of course included in the same curriculum. The pilot start will take place from the beginning of the 2025 school year and their free form will be introduced in education from 2026,” Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized.
The Minister of Education, speaking about the appointment of 10,000 permanent teachers, referred to the peculiarity of the Greek education system with “substitute teachers”, repeated the government’s intention “to reduce the ratio of permanent teachers to substitutes to 50%, as the Prime Minister stated” and defended the priority of appointments in secondary education for this year, stressing that “in the next period, priority will be given to primary education”.
“One cannot definitively solve the problem of substitute teachers. He can try to reduce their number to a minimum and deal very quickly with the gaps that are created for various existing reasons” said Mr. Pierrakakis.
“The changes in education will start from September and will start from the Kindergarten to end up at the High School” noted the Minister of Education, insisting “on the need to combine these with improvements in the national examination system, but without abolishing the acquis of so many years and above all their unchanging character”.
Mr. Pierrakakis stated that the changes in the schools will follow the prompts of the OECD, so that Greek education can keep up with the global constants and he repeated the interventions that have already been made in the digital tutorial and those that are expected from September with the admission to the Lyceum of the “live tutorial with questions and teaching professors who will be seconded to the Ministry of Education”.
Finally, Mr. Pierrakakis made a special reference to infrastructure issues, stating that “in collaboration with the Ministries of the Interior and Finance, we are looking for funding to help the Municipalities improve the infrastructure of the schools, because it is not technologically possible for education to advance to 2025 with interactive paintings and other changes and next to it there is the threat of the ready-to-fall plaster”.
