Within two minutes and 17 seconds of the moment the 36-year-old contacted the authorities to inform that she was in danger and to ask for help, she had already been brutally murdered by her estranged husband.

The officers of AT Amfilochia, although they locked the door in order to rush to the house of the unfortunate woman, unfortunately they did not manage to prevent this fatal outcome.

The chronology of the 8th femicide since the beginning of 2024 highlights the delay in communicating with the police the critical minutes of the 42-year-old armed assailant’s invasion of the victim’s home as well as the difficulty of the authorities to locate and arrest him two days earlier, when and the 36-year-old had filed a lawsuit against him.

At the same time, there was indecision regarding the custody of her family.

It is recalled that the 42-year-old broke into the house at 04:00 on Saturday morning where he found his 13-year-old daughter.

The best man of the couple tried to calm him down, according to the police.

The perpetrator contacted the 36-year-old woman and told her to go home, threatening to kill their daughter.

The best man then contacted the unfortunate Areti himself, informing her that the 42-year-old has a gun to prevent her from returning home, telling her that the child is safe.

“He has a gun, your daughter is safe. You better not come to the housey”, he allegedly told her.

The 36-year-old, after the phone call with her best man, contacted the authorities shortly after 4:30 in the morning with the Amfilochia Police Station.

“My name is Areti… Help I’m in danger” he said to the police officer without giving any further contact and residence information.

The connection was suddenly cut off as it appears at that very moment the woman was shot by the attacker.

As we already know, even though the best man of the couple tried to stop the assailant from coming down the stairs, the 42-year-old jumped from the balcony to the outside of the house, where the woman had arrived, firing the fatal shots at her.

Officers traced her details – phone number and address – and moved to her home, while making repeated calls, which went unanswered as the woman had apparently already met a tragic death.

They eventually arrived at the home, where they found the victim and her estranged husband mortally wounded.
