Police officers from the Heraklion Security Sub-Directorate arrested a man for fraud, and at the same time investigated six other similar cases

According to the police, yesterday morning, an elderly woman received a call from an unknown person, who pretended to be a doctor and, citing an alleged injury to a close relative, convinced her to pay the sum of 10 thousand euros for the surgery, to which she had to undergo . The elderly woman, in a state of confusion and fear, delivered, following telephone instructions, to an unknown person the above amount of money.

As it emerged from the police investigation and preliminary investigation, the arrested person was identified as the perpetrator who received the above amount of money, while from the ongoing police preliminary investigation it emerged that, since last Sunday morning, the specific man and another foreigner had cooperated with the aim of perpetrating fraud, and obtaining an illegal financial benefit, committing an additional six counts of attempted fraud.

Immediately, an operation was set up where he was searched, located and arrested, while in his possession was found the amount of money of 9,920 euros which was attributed to the patient.

The preliminary investigation continues by the Security Directorate of Heraklion. On the occasion of the new incident, the Regional Police Directorate of Crete advises citizens to be particularly careful in cases where they are asked by telephone to pay sums of money or to provide account details or codes, in order to carry out transactions, as well as to immediately inform the police authorities in any case that you perceive such behaviors, even in the case of an attempt
