There is a large forest fire in progress in Sofiko in Corinth, next to the Epidaurus – Corinth highway during the extinguishing of which 3 firefighters were slightly injured. Shortly after 12 noon, a message from 112 rang out to the citizens in the area to stay ready.

The firefighters, who were injured, according to the first information from the Fire Department, have minor burns and have been taken to the Corinth hospital.

Firefighters characterize it as a “difficult fire” as the specific front has gained a large area. However, so far no residential part is threatened.

The fire is heading south under Sofiko and started from olive trees at the height of a tavern and quickly grew in size.

The firefighting forces operating at the scene were further reinforced, namely 120 firefighters with 5 groups of infantry divisions (including 10 firefighters from Moldova within the framework of the pre-installation program of the European Civil Protection Mechanism) and 32 vehicles and from the air 19 aerial vehicles (13 aircraft and 6 helicopters of which two for coordination). Municipal water bodies and project machinery are also involved.

At the same time, a fire broke out in dry grass and plots of land on Acharnes near houses. Ground forces and 1 helicopter rushed to the scene.

At the same time, a fire broke out in plots of land and olive groves and in Transformation of Messinia where 22 firefighters operate with 9 vehicles, 2 aircraft and a helicopter as well as in Tsoliades Kilkis near the border station which was closed as a precaution due to smoke.

In particular, there are no vehicle crossings, to and from Greek territory, through the Customs of Evzones, in Kilkis, due to the fire that broke out at noon, near the borders of Greece and North Macedonia.

The fire, which occurred in the “Tsoliades” area, according to sources from the Fire Department, is burning an agro-forestry and grassland area. 39 firefighters and two pedestrian units, with 12 water vehicles, are operating at the scene, while a helicopter is making continuous drops from the air.

In order to facilitate the access of ground firefighting forces to the scene, it was decided to close PATHE, from the height of the Polykastro bridge to the Evzones customs office, and traffic for vehicles moving towards the northern border is conducted through Polykastro.

At the same time, the customs authorities of the neighboring country closed the entrance to the Greek territory in order to deal with the fire and if the Greek authorities give the “green light” the operation will be restored at the border crossing to our country.

An operation by the fire department is also underway for a fire that broke out in the area Tyrnavos faucet where 9 fire engines have rushed.
