Mrs. Pope did not hide her satisfaction with the improvement that Greece presents in relation to the situation it faced three years ago.
The integration of refugees into socio-economic life was at the center of the working meeting held at the open structure of temporary accommodation of asylum seekers in Schistos. The occasion is the visit to Greece of the Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Amy Pope. Mrs. Pope did not hide her satisfaction with the improvement that Greece presents in relation to the situation it faced three years ago.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Deputy Minister responsible for Integration Sofia Voultepsi, the Secretary General of the Reception and Identification Service Stellina Siarapi, the head of the IOM Ambassador Gianluca Rocco and the Commander of the Structure Thomas Papakonstantinou.
During the working meeting, the value of the integration programs implemented by the ministry in collaboration with the IOM was underlined, including HELIOS, HELIOS JUNIOR, the projects of the Recovery Fund, the accommodation of unaccompanied minors.
Of particular interest was the discussion with refugees and asylum seekers, who live in the structure and take part in the Program implemented by the ministry and the IOM with funds from the Recovery Fund.
The refugees told their personal stories, emphasizing the value of the Greek language courses and other educational activities that contributed to the improvement of their lives and everyday life. And they did not fail to express their gratitude to our country for choosing to protect the vulnerable.
For her part, Amy Pope promised that she would always be by their side and by Greece’s side to carry out its humanitarian work while ensuring social cohesion.
