He passed away today, just before 11am, at the age of 68, Akis Stamatiadis, director, member of ESIEA and since 2019 head of the Video – Services department of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

Akis Stamatiadiss was one of the persons who decisively contributed to the aesthetics of private television in Greece, and especially of newscasts from its inception.

He worked for many years in television, ERT, MEGA Channel and Alter and directed several documentaries, some of which have won awards in Greece and abroad. He also directed many television series, theater performances and events of the Thessaloniki Song Festival.

Among the television series are To Dis Examartain, C’est la vie, Petros and his girls, Show me your friend, Berdemata etc. He also directed the talk show Aperitif. He was an assistant director on several other series, including He and He.

At ERT, he participated in directing the broadcast of the 2004 Olympic Games and also in the stage and directing production of Eurovision when in 2006 ERT took over its organization, after the debut of Elena Paparizou.

With a special eye on events, Akis Stamatiadis never stopped supporting the law, he was particularly loved by his colleagues and managed to manage difficult situations on television newscasts many times, such as the live broadcasts of five major events at the same time.

For his colleagues during his years of work in private television, the moments when he was at the control of MEGA during the war in Iraq, when the correspondents’ hotel was bombed on a live link to Baghdad at the same time as other correspondents’ live broadcasts from Washington, have been unforgettable. and Brussels, and he calmly moderated the newscast.

Akis Stamatiadis suffered for many years from an incurable illness which he faced until the last moment with great courage, strength and optimism while never ceasing to be present responding to his duties and all the tasks assigned to him, with honor and sensitivity for the his colleagues. His contribution to the development of the Video Services Department of APE-MPE, from its creation in 2019 until today, was decisive.

His body will be cremated on the evening of Wednesday, July 24 at the Ritsona crematorium
