There was no explosion of a wind turbine in southern Evia, the Hellenic Scientific Association for Wind Energy (ELETAEN) says in a statement on the occasion of related publications.

It specifically emphasizes the following:

“While South Evia was being tested for another year by a devastating fire, reports appeared on the internet and in the press that referred to an alleged explosion in a wind turbine. According to them, the (alleged) explosion nearly injured firefighters working at the scene at the time, while posts were then circulated on the internet implying that the (alleged) explosion of the wind turbine was the cause of the fire.

The truth is that none of this has happened: No wind turbines exploded, no wind turbines burned, and there was no connection between the wind turbines in the area and the cause of the fire or the people fighting the flames.

Instead, the roads that have been opened within the wind farm were used by the fire brigade, offering access to otherwise difficult places.

We deeply regret that at the moment when the residents of South Evia, the human resources of the fire and forest service, the local government and volunteers – among them workers in the wind farms in the area – were fighting to put out the fire, some found an opportunity to disperse again fake news about wind turbines”.
