More than 9,500 acres are estimated to have been burned by the fire in Pissonas of Evia, according to data from the Copernicus/Emergency Management Service and the Chalkida Forest Service. As stated in a statement by the forest office of Chalkida, from the first processing of the data using the corresponding indicators, it emerged that the burnt area (forest areas in general) amounts to 9,780.00 acres. In particular, the forest office of Chalkida after extinguishing the forest fire that took place in the areas of T.K. Pournou of the Municipality of Dirfia – Messapia and Afratiou of the Municipality of Chalkidea on July 31, 2024 proceeded to map the burnt forest area, using the data obtained from the European COPERNICUS system.

As emphasized in the announcement of the Forestry Office of Chalkida and the forester, forester, Antonis Akriotis, a digital analysis will follow with the combined use of remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in order to provide a more detailed visualization and draw the relevant conclusions regarding:

• The behavior and operation of the mock cleanings as well as those designated surfaces which were carried out through the ANTINERO III program. The results will be communicated to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

• the requirement for the implementation of anti-corrosion – anti-flooding interventions (projects) that will result from the combined use of the burn index (Differential Normalized Burn Ratio (DNBR), the type of parent rock and the erosion of the soil.

According to the first data from the Copernicus/Emergency Management Service, the area affected by the July 31 fire in Pissonas Evia amounts to 9,704 acres.

With reference to the fire that broke out in a forest area, during the lunch hours of July 29, 2024, in the area of ​​Petries Evia of the municipality of Kymi-Aliveri, 7,844 acres were affected, of which, according to information from Civil Protection, approximately 4,800 are forested.
