More than 60 fires in a 24-hour period broke out across the country, most of them caused by lightning
According to the Fire Department, the fires in Aliveri, Domoko, Nafplio, Tanagra, and Nea Santa Rodopis, while the fire in a forest area in Agios Athanasios, a settlement in Skourta Boiotias, in Dervenochoria, was brought under partial control earlier. Strong ground forces of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection remain in the fields.
It is noted that as stated by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, more than 60 fires broke out today, of which 45 after noon. The main cause, as the minister pointed out, was the intense lightning activity throughout the country and especially in Attikoboiotia and Evia.
Specifically, Mr. Kikilias underlines:
Today more than 60 fires broke out, of which 45 after noon. The main cause is the intense lightning activity throughout the country and especially in Attikoboiotia and Evia. In difficult, impassable forest areas with a great risk of spread, firefighters, pilots and civil protection forces gave and continue to give a great fight with all their forces.’
