1788:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completes Symphony no. 41, also known as “Tou Dios”.

1793: The Louvre museum opens its doors.

1913: The Treaty of Bucharest is signed, ending the Second Balkan War. The treaty defines the new borders of Greece and Bulgaria, based on the line Mount Belles – mouth of the river Nestos. A few days before, on August 3, the Greco-Serbian border had been defined in Belgrade (Venizelou-Pasic Protocol), based on the Prespes-Doirani line. (New Calendar)

1920: Sultan Mehmet VI signs the Treaty of Sèvres, which puts the definitive “tombstone” on the Ottoman Empire. Greece gains territory and becomes “the country of two continents and five seas”, according to Eleftherios Venizelos. (July 28 with the old calendar)

1922: PPAO gets its fourth and final name. At the suggestion of Michalis Papazoglou, which is officially announced in the Athenian press, the historical club of Giorgos Kalafatis adopts the Trefoil as its symbol and is now called the Panathinaikos Athletic Club (PAO), a name by which it will later be known, both in the country us, as well as throughout Europe.

1969: Coca Cola is released on the Greek market.

1884: Panait Istrati, (Panagis Valsamis his real name), the so-called Gorgi of the Balkans, Romanian writer of Greek origin. (“Lady Kiralina”) (D. 16/4/1935)

1947: Ian Anderson, English musician, the soul of the band “Jethro Tull”.

1960: Antonio Banderas, Spanish actor and director, with an international career.

Deaths

1881: Spyridon Zampelios, Greek historian and writer. He was characterized as the theoretician of the historical unity of ancient, medieval and modern Hellenism and, together with Konstantinos Paparrigopoulos, constitute the “Dioskouros” of Greek historiography of the 19th century. (Born 1/9/1815)

[1945: Robert Goddard, American physicist, one of the fathers of modern rocketry. (Born 5/10/1882)

1968:Gabriel Hanot, French footballer and journalist. He worked for the sports newspaper “L’ Équipe” and is considered the originator of the Champions Cup in football (now the Champions League). (Born 6/11/1889)
