All the personnel and means of the mechanism of Civil Protection of the Region of Attica they are in the field from the first minutes of the fire in Barnabas, reports the District.

By his personal order Nikos Hardalia, who is in constant and direct communication with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilia and the operational staff of the Ministry, in record time, all the water-bearing and earth-moving machines requested by the competent Ministry to extinguish the fire were made available to the Fire Brigade, as for the entire duration of the fire season, the Region’s mechanism is on high alert. At the same time, the competent Deputy Regional Governors and officials of the Attica Region are in the field, constantly informing the Regional Governor about the development of operations.

In the afternoon, Mr. Hardalias contacted the Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis and the administration of OAKA, in order to open the stadium areas, in order to welcome citizens of the fire-affected areas who are being evacuated by the Fire Department. Following the initiative of the Regional Governor of Attica, the premises of the OAKA will remain open and ready for as long as the high risk indicators for fire in Attica last, offering protection and relief to those affected. The entrance is from Spyrou Loui Avenue 1, in Maroussi, from Gate A, which leads directly to the Central Olympic Stadium.

“Once again, Attica is being tested by the consequences of the climate crisis and we are all in the field, in complete agreement and with all our strength to protect the lives and property of the citizens”, said Nikos Hardalias, pointing out the need that the residents of the affected areas faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities: “I call on our fellow citizens to apply to the letter the instructions given to them through 112, especially the orders to evacuate areas where there is a risk of entrapment. Protecting human life is an absolute priority in any crisis response operation. The Region supports the evacuation operations, as requested, always under the coordination of the competent Ministry. Right now, it’s battle time. I sincerely thank the women and men of the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection and our volunteers who are selflessly in the field”.

Earlier, the competent Coordinating Body for Civil Protection of the Region of Attica (P.E. of Attica) also met in Kapandriti, for the better coordination of the assistance of resources and means from the Region of Attica to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection which has the responsibility for all business planning.
