Administrative fines 4,640.60 euros each were imposed on the two minors, who were arrested yesterday Monday, as part of the spontaneous procedure, by investigative officers of the Arson Crimes Directorate. They were arrested for arson on purpose in a forest area, in Terpsithea, Glyfada municipality.

The two minors, as well as their guardians, will be taken to court today, Tuesday Juvenile Prosecutor, of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office. According to information, the minors were playing with firecrackers, as a result of which the fire broke out.

If we hadn’t happened to be there, a fire could have broken out in Ymittos, the mayor of Glyfada told SKAI George Papanikolaou.

A little before 8 (at night) the fire broke out, we had a patrol, we were the first to reach the spot and we have demarcated it, it is an inaccessible point. Then came the helicopters, taking water from municipal reservoirs, there was no need to go down to the sea, and the fire was out in half an hour.

We could if we had an extension of the fire to Hymettos if we weren’t there, the mayor pointed out. At the time the fire started, two young children were spotted, the neighbors chased them and then they were brought in. I want to believe that they did not think that “now that everyone is in NE Attica let’s go and set fire to Hymettos”.
