The unspeakable tragedy at an amusement park in Pefkohori, Halkidiki, is shocking. A 19-year-old man was fatally injured when he broke the seat of the game he was taking part in with his brother in front of his mother and other brother.

The police arrested the 58-year-old manager of the amusement park, while the wanted 21-year-old operator of the game was handed over to the authorities at noon today. The game operator was charged with manslaughter.

According to the forensic examination which was completed a while ago, the 19-year-old’s injury from the first caused instant death.

The funeral of the 19-year-old is expected to take place tomorrow at 11.00 in Veria.

The seat in which the 19-year-old was sitting came loose and the young man was thrown and hit his head. Next to him was his brother.

“I felt the seat come off, I also tell my brother and at one point I feel the whole back come off and after a few fractions of a second, I see that I am on my back, my brother is not next to me and I am unconsciously holding on to the iron. While he was turning, he broke and my brother left the seat. As soon as the seat broke, we screamed. We were stopped by other people who were there for fun”the 19-year-old’s brother said.

Everything unfolded before the eyes of the 19-year-old’s mother and younger brother.

An eyewitness describes the first seconds after the accident. “We heard a very loud noise. And to see the child, the children flying backwards. We ran over the kid directly to help. One brother was together. In front of mother and little brother”states characteristics

The young man was taken to the health center of Kassandrea in critical condition, but a few hours later he succumbed to his injuries.

In the morning the police went to the amusement park and placed the ribbons to seal off the area.

From 12:00 noon, experts are examining the area where the accident happened so that the data can be given to the police and from there to the prosecutor’s office so that they can be included in the case file that will be formed.

An expert appointed by the AT Kassandras, speaking to the SKAI camera, emphasized that from the inspection they have “a complete picture regarding the circumstances of the accident, however the process is secret and the data will be given to the police”.

The game, which was full of people, consists of rotating chairs that move on an axis in a circular direction, developing speed.

Once again, the tragedy with the relevant authorities emerges. According to the mayor Kassandras, local government, the Ministry of Development and the police are involved in the control of the amusement park, while despite the fact that it had not followed the prescribed procedures for its operation in the specific area, no one had intervened.

These get ISO certifications to operate from the Ministry of Development department. He makes a notification as is also done in the health interest and he is responsible to have in his hands all the licenses from all the competent services and to present them. According to Article 110 of Law 4442/2016 the only competent authority for the implementation of the legal framework regarding the granting of permits and the control of compliance with the operating requirements of amusement parks is the Municipality in whose territorial jurisdiction the activity is carried out, and in this particular case the Municipality of Kassandra.

The imposition of the shutdown and the fines for violation of the relevant legislation is also done by decision of the competent body of the relevant municipality, in the specific case of the Municipality of Kassandra”.

At the same time, the Ministry of the Interior has reportedly ordered a disciplinary check on the mayor of Kassandra, Mrs. Anastasia Chalkia.

The owner of the amusement park will be brought before the Criminal Prosecutor of Halkidiki, while an investigation is underway into the legality of the operation of the business and the machine.
