The 8 defendants in the case of 100 kilos of cocaine, worth 3.8 million euros confiscated by the law enforcement authorities in Northern Greece, were given a deadline to apologize.
According to an announcement by the Coast Guard, on February 26, an x-ray vehicle of the First Customs of Thessaloniki checked containers – which had been unloaded from a ship coming from Malta, with a legal cargo of bananas – while in the morning, on February 28 physical control of four containers, with the assistance of the police dogs for drug detection of the relevant Port Authority and the Department of Drugs and Weapons Prosecution-SDOE Macedonia.
After a thorough search in one of the containers, 76 packages of cocaine were found and confiscated, with a total gross weight of 100,730 kilos. On March 2, the specific container was delivered to the premises of a private company based in E.O. Veria – Naoussa.
The truck that transported the container had been placed under discreet surveillance and upon entering the company, the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki intervened, resulting in the arrest of the driver, the legal representative and three employees of the company. Subsequently and following a verbal order from a prosecutor, three more people involved in the case were arrested.
The relevant Port Authority conducting the preliminary investigation confiscated the said container and the vehicle after the trailer, while a sample of the confiscated quantity of drugs will be sent to the General State Chemist for further examination.
