The Prime Minister referred to the innovations introduced in the operation philosophy of the school, in the school curricula and in the operation of the Skills Workshops, changes that align the school with the requirements of the 21st century.

“The Skills Workshops are the most important intervention we made at school, and we give an opportunity for autonomy to the teachers at school”, stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“Our policy has always been to strengthen the management of schools and I believe that you know much better how the school should work and that you do not need to get permission from the Ministry of Education for any innovation you want to introduce. “And since you also have excellent cooperation with the parents, which is also very important, autonomy in a school unit”, the Prime Minister pointed out.

“Besides – as you know – we made permanent appointments after more than a decade, thus filling a large gap that existed,” he added, while referring to the gradual lifting of restrictive measures to deal with the pandemic.

During this school year, students at Varis Manna School learn programming (coding), participate in literacy and recycling programs, attend workshops focusing on books on the Asia Minor Catastrophe, marking the turn of the century since 1922, and participate in action “Women who changed the world”, organized by the Women’s Association of Ermoupolis.

The six classes of the Municipal Weight of Manna Syros implement the Skills Laboratories that have been institutionalized. Their subjects, which are part of the weekly program at various stages of primary and secondary education, range from Road Safety and Sex Education to Natural Disasters and Civil Protection, and from STEM Education Robotics and Entrepreneurship to Entrepreneurship. Volunteering.

The aim of the Skills Workshops is for children to cultivate valuable skills and to acquire friction with important topics for life and society, already from the years of kindergarten. The result is the strengthening of students’ training and at the same time the development of critical and multidimensional way of thinking, combining knowledge from many different fields, in a group environment.

The Skills Workshops are organized based on four major topics: “I live better”, “I take care of the environment”, “I am interested and active” and “I create and innovate”, and each is subdivided into topics that cover a wide range of topics.

A new school complex for the 21st century

The school unit of Vari Manna Syros is housed in newly built facilities, which were inaugurated in the school year 2020-21. Thanks to the construction of the new faculty, it was possible to unify the then dihedral school, which operated three classes in the area of ​​Manna and three in Vari, with the result that the 134 students and 18 teachers are now housed in a single space.

The new unit, with a total area of ​​1,334 square meters, has state-of-the-art technological equipment, including eight large TVs and two computers, and has received a donation of nine tablets from the Ministry of Education and Religions.

The infrastructure includes seven classrooms, a computer lab, an art room, a multipurpose room and a court with a special carpet. Accessibility for all is ensured by the installation of ramps, elevator and bathroom for the disabled.
