The preliminary investigation into the wounding of a young man with a firearm in an apartment in the city of Ioannina led the police to locate war material in an apartment, which was confiscated yesterday by the Security Directorate.
Two men, aged 50 and 51, were arrested today for the case, against whom a criminal case was filed for violations of the weapons legislation.
In particular, regarding the timeline of the case, the Police Department of Ioannina was informed yesterday afternoon by the General Hospital “G. Hatzikosta”, that earlier a 19-year-old young man had been taken from an apartment in the city of Ioannina, who suffered severe brain injuries, as a result of a gunshot wound.
As part of the preliminary investigations to verify the circumstances under which his injury occurred, an autopsy was carried out in the apartment where the injured young man was found, with the assistance of the Department of Criminal Investigations of the General Regional Police Directorate of Epirus. There, the disputed weapon, which is a pistol, was found and confiscated, while it emerged that it belongs to the 50-year-old arrested, a relative of the injured.
From the search in the apartment, but also in that of the arrested person, located in the same apartment building, in the basement and attic of the apartment building, as well as in a house in the village of Ioannina, the following were found and confiscated in total:
- 9,485 cartridges of various types of weapons and calibers,
- 3 pistols, caliber 9mm, 7.65mm and 6.35mm each,
- rifled shotgun, repeating rifle type,
- single shot rifle rifle,
- 7 round capacity revolver,
- inoperable revolver,
- educational mortar,
- German World War II grenade,
- oxidized WWII Italian grenade,
- training grenade,
- 4 empty grenades without explosive and firing system,
- grenade body and shell,
- 39 magazines,
- 40 bayonets,
- various parts, stocks, barrels of military rifles,
- submachine gun barrel,
- gun silencer,
- 20 firecrackers,
- 16 naval hand flares,
- 4 packs of flares along with a launcher and
- 2 Flare Launchers.
From the preliminary investigation it emerged that confiscated items belong, as the case may be, to the 50-year-old and the 51-year-old, who was arrested this morning in an area of ​​Attica, by police officers of the Sub-Directorate of State Security of the Attica Security Directorate, while at his home, a pair of binoculars was found and confiscated .
Those arrested, with the case filed against him by the Security Sub-Directorate of Ioannina, will be taken to the Prosecutor’s Office of Primary Ioannina, while the confiscated items will be submitted to the prescribed, as the case may be, laboratory tests.
It is noted that, from the investigation carried out by the Ioannina Police Department, no evidence has emerged at the moment that would point to a criminal act, regarding the young man’s injury.
