The burning issue of climate change, viability and sustainability, will be at the center of the three-day Environmental Symposium “EARTH: A Sustainable Planet for All – A Call to Action – Change is Possible”, which will take place in Rethymno between 10 and 12 September 2024.

The Symposium is under the auspices of S.A. of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the A.Th.P. of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Mr. Bartholomew, and is co-organized by the Holy Metropolis of Rethymnon and Avlopotamos, the University of Crete, the Goulandris Museum of Natural History and the Region of Crete, in the premises of the Holy Metropolis (among them the Arkadiou Monastery), the University of Crete and the Paleontological Museum of Rethymno (annex MFI).

It includes speeches by notable personalities from all over the country, who, in addition to findings, will propose actions, in order for civil society to wake up and become aware of the climate crisis and take action.

Among the speakers of the Symposium are representatives of the Church, University professors, representatives of politics and the judiciary, representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations and others, who will join their voices and exchange ideas on the response and challenges of climate change.

The work of the Symposium will be accompanied by educational activities for students of the Natural History Museum of Crete and the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, as well as the screening of a film with the concert of the world-famous opera singer Joyce DiDonato, who has been distinguished for her ecological awareness .

It is also noted that the Symposium is part of the anniversary events for the completion of 200 years since the martyrdom of the Four Holy New Martyrs, Manuel, Angeli, Georgiou and Nikolaou (1824 – 2024) in Rethymno.
