The number of agroforestry fires that the Fire Brigade faced today reached 38.

Of these, according to an announcement by the Fire Department, 29 were dealt with immediately, in their initial stage, while the fire forces are dealing with another nine. It is noted that in seven of them the assistance of aerial means was deemed necessary for their management.

According to Civil Protection sources, at this time, the Civil Protection forces are making great efforts to deal with two agroforestry fires that broke out at 5 pm in the areas of Kataloupou and Agala in Zakynthos.

30 firefighters, a group of forest rangers, 11 vehicles and volunteers are working to extinguish them, while 7 aircraft and 3 helicopters are spraying water from the air.

Subsidiaries are provided by local water bodies and project machinery. In addition, 26 firefighters with 5 vehicles are scheduled to go by ferry from Kyllini.

With regard to the other fires, as reported by the same sources:

-At 09:25 a fire broke out in Kallithea Rhodes in tires – garbage.

The fire was controlled in two hours and 36 firefighters with a group of pedestrians, 14 vehicles, and 1 helicopter worked on the scene.

– A fire broke out at 12:42 in Martinos Fthiotidas in a forest area. The fire was controlled in one hour and 25 firefighters with 1 group of forest commandos, 8 vehicles, and 3 aircraft tried to the scene.

– A fire broke out at 14:00 in a forest area in Mesopotamos, Parga. The fire was without an active front in two hours and 30 firefighters with 1 group of foresters, 12 vehicles and 6 aircraft tried to extinguish it. Subscription from local water bodies and project machinery.

-A fire broke out at 14:17, in low vegetation, at the Kozani Fortress. The fire was controlled in 2 hours and 21 firefighters with 1 group of pedestrians, 7 vehicles, and 1 helicopter worked on the scene. Subscription by local water bodies.

– A fire broke out at 14:30 in low vegetation in Kourouklata, Kefalonia.

The fire was controlled in one hour and 26 firefighters with 1 group of hikers, 7 vehicles, 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter worked on the scene. Subscription by local water bodies.

-A fire broke out at 14:50, in low vegetation in Katodio Karpathos.

The fire was without an active front in one hour and 19 firefighters, with a group of hikers from the 3rd EMODE, 4 vehicles, 3 aircraft and 2 helicopters attempted to extinguish it. Subscription by local water bodies.

It is noted that the local investigative offices, as well as Units of the Arson Crimes Directorate (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

Finally, the Fire Department calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent Authorities.
