Nanny sued 36-year-old mother who was sentenced to a redeemable prison sentence
A nanny’s complaint that the 1.5-year-old baby she was taking care of was physically abused by his 36-year-old mother, led the latter to the audience of the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki, which sentenced her to a total prison sentence of 2 years and 10 months.
The court decided not to suspend the sentence, but to convert it into a monetary one, at 10 euros/day.
She appealed against the decision and was released.
The disputed incident happened last month, when the 36-year-old returned from work.
As she herself works at night, she had hired the 73-year-old nanny to look after her child in the previous months.
Testifying in court, the elderly woman said that when the accused returned, under the influence of alcohol, to her house, he started arguing with her, kicking the doors.
“The child woke up and started crying. I went to his crib and hugged him and then the accused came and hit him hard in the face, at least twice“, testified the witness who then called the Police.
According to the police officers who were called to the scene, the woman was aggressive when they entered the apartment and resisted arrest, while she abused them and threw a vase at them. A forensic examination was ordered by the authorities, which confirmed injuries on the infant’s face.
In her apology, the 36-year-old, who has an even older child, denied that she had abused the infant, as well as that she had consumed alcohol.
“Returning from work I took the baby in my armshe said, declaring ignorance of the injuries found.
“I don’t know if they were from the feeding or if it hit. I left the baby just fine when I leftshe said, while accusing the nanny of reporting her vindictively because she wanted more money.
Regarding the police’s allegations, he apologized for throwing a fruit bowl at them, reacting in this way to avoid arrest because he had nowhere to leave the children.
Ultimately, the jury found her guilty of domestic battery-threatening, violence against employees (resisting) and verbal abuse.
