The Greek series Famagusta will not be played on the Netflix platform in other countries (including Turkey) except Greece, claims the President of the Turkish ESR Ebubekir Åžahin. In his related post on X, Ebubekir Åžahin states, among other things: “As the body that regulates and supervises digital broadcasting services in our country, the Supreme Council arranged the necessary meetings with the broadcaster Netflix and an agreement was reached not to broadcast the production. The production in question will be listed on Netflix only in the country where it was previously broadcast (Greece) and will not be listed in Turkey or any other country».

From the first moment it was announced that the Famagusta series was included in the new series that would be hosted by the well-known platform, there were fierce reactions.

The beginning was made with an announcement issued by the Turkish ministry where it stated that “The series entitled ‘Famagusta’, which will be broadcast on a digital platform, serves the black propaganda of the ‘Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus’ (Republic of Cyprus) by distorting historical events. This series is a great disrespect to the honored memories of the Turkish Cypriots who were massacred by Greek Cypriot gangs in the period 1963-74. Such futile attempts to portray the events differently from what happened, further strengthens our resolve to fight for our national cause of Cyprus. We pay tribute to our Cypriot veterans and our heroes.”

“We have no official information”

Speaking to skai.gr Koullis Nikolaou, production manager of the series said: “What you know, I also know. We have no official information. But I am not surprised by the possibility that it is true because Turkey is powerful”

The Turkish Ministry of Defense is preparing a documentary-response

After the reactionsTurkey announced that it was preparing its own response to the series Famagusta which is shown on Netflix, according to what was reported by Manolis Kostidis.

According to what the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated, the ministry is preparing a documentary, which will also be shown on the state Turkish channel, which will describe the “atrocities” of the Greeks.

The documentary that will be broadcast by TRT Belgesel on September 9 narrates “the cruelty and pain inflicted by the Greek army on the Turks during the War of Independence based on objective and historical documents,” said Zeki Akturk.

He elaborated: “It is clear that the series called ‘Famagusta’ and similar provocative initiatives, aimed at black propaganda, which are announced to be broadcast on a digital platform, and which include great disrespect to the dear memories of our Turkish Cypriot brothers, who were brutally murdered by the Greek Cypriot gangs by distorting historical data, will not benefit anyone, including the Greek side.

Such futile efforts that discredit the peace operation in Cyprus, which brought peace and tranquility to both sides, serve the impasse. It damages the security environment provided on the island.

On the other hand, the ’50th Anniversary Documentary’ prepared by our ministry, which tells the realities of the reasons that led to the Peace Operation in Cyprus and not fabricated scenarios, will be broadcast on various platforms with English subtitles.

We will continue to stand by our Cypriot brothers, as we have done until now, regarding our national cause, Cyprus.

Also the documentary entitled ‘The Next Day’, which tells the cruelty and pain caused by the Greek army to the Turks during the War of Independence based on objective and historical documents, will be broadcast on TRT Belgesel on September 9.

At the same time, the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that in the framework of the “Confidence Building Measures Implementation Plan for 2024” between Turkey and Greece, the Commander of the 1st Army is scheduled to visit the Commander of the 1st Army of Greece (Larissa/Greece) on September 11-12.
