Turkey today condemned the “murder” in West Bank of a pro-Palestinian activist, with dual American and Turkish citizenship, saying the woman was killed by “Israeli occupation soldiers.”

“It is with deep sadness that we learned that the citizen of our country, Eisenur Ezgi Evgi was killed by Israeli occupation soldiers in the city of Nablus (…) We condemn this murder committed by the Netanyahu government,” announced the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Fouad Nafaa, commander of Rafidiya Hospital in Nablustold Reuters and Agence France-Presse that the woman was taken to hospital in a very critical condition, with a serious head injury from gunshots. “We tried to resuscitate her, but unfortunately she died,” he said.

The US said it was “urgently” seeking more information about the activist’s death.

“Israel is trying to intimidate anyone who comes to help the Palestinians and is fighting peacefully against the genocide,” underlined the announcement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, denouncing a “crime against humanity.”

Earlier today the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that an American citizen, who participated in a demonstration against the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank, succumbed to her injuries after being shot in the head by Israeli soldiers

The Israeli military said it was looking into the report.

The American embassy has not yet made a comment.

WAFA reported that the incident occurred during a protest march by activists in Beitah, a town near the city of Nablus that has experienced repeated attacks by settlers.
