What is really true about the deal that was made with Netflix in the first place for Famagusta. The… supposed victory of Turkey
“Odinen term and eteken myn”. This phrase finally summarizes the… battle that Turkey fought to prevent the Greek Famagusta series from being played on the Neftlix platform worldwide.
And while Turkey is “celebrating” its victory, implying that it has so much influence that it managed to impose itself on the global giant, the latest information (or better clarifications) completely changes the scene.
Turkey did not achieve any victory at all. And this, because as it is duly clarified, from the beginning the agreement with Neflix for the Famagusta series only concerned its platform in Greece and Cyprus. Something that was also mentioned in the original Press Release that was issued.
In fact, according to the information, the only Greek series that is broadcast worldwide is Maestro.
A… nonsensical deal
It is recalled that a little earlier the President of the Turkish ESR, Ebubekir Şahin, in his post on X, Ebubekir Şahin said, among other things: “As the body that regulates and supervises digital broadcasting services in our country, the Supreme Council arranged the necessary meetings with the broadcaster Netflix and an agreement was reached not to broadcast the production. The production in question will be listed on Netflix only in the country where it was previously broadcast (Greece) and will not be listed in Turkey or any other country.”
KAMUOYUNUN BİLGİSİNE!
The “Famagusta” production, which is the peace and heroism of our recent history, “Kıbrıs Çıkarması” was met with a reaction from the Turkish public.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense is preparing a documentary-response
However, Turkey has announced that it is preparing its own response to the Famagusta series. According to what the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated, the ministry is preparing a documentary, which will also be shown on the state Turkish channel, which will describe the “atrocities” of the Greeks.
The documentary that will be broadcast by TRT Belgesel on September 9 narrates “the cruelty and pain inflicted by the Greek army on the Turks during the War of Independence based on objective and historical documents,” said Zeki Akturk.
He stated in detail: “It is clear that the series called ‘Famagusta’ and similar provocative initiatives, aimed at black propaganda, which are announced to be broadcast on a digital platform, and which include great disrespect to the beloved memories of our Turkish Cypriot brothers, who were brutally murdered by the Greek Cypriots gangs distorting historical data, will not benefit anyone, including the Greek side.
Such futile efforts that discredit the peace operation in Cyprus, which brought peace and tranquility to both sides, serve the impasse. It damages the security environment provided on the island.
On the other hand, the ’50th Anniversary Documentary’ prepared by our ministry, which tells the realities of the reasons that led to the Peace Operation in Cyprus and not fabricated scenarios, will be broadcast on various platforms with English subtitles.
We will continue to stand by our Cypriot brothers, as we have done until now, regarding our national cause, Cyprus.
Also the documentary entitled ‘The Next Day’, which tells the cruelty and pain caused by the Greek army to the Turks during the War of Independence based on objective and historical documents, will be broadcast on TRT Belgesel on September 9.
