Facts

1570: Mustafa Pasha’s Ottoman forces occupy and plunder Nicosia, which was defended by the Venetian inspector Dandelo and the Greek Evgenios Synglectikos. The fall of Nicosia marked the predominance of the Turks in almost the whole of Cyprus.

1822: The Naval Battle of Spetses takes place, in which the Greek fleet, with 72 ships under the command of Andreas Miaoulis, defeats the Turkish fleet, under Kara Ali. Thus, the resupply of the besieged Turks of Nafplion is thwarted.

1919: US Marines invade Honduras to protect the interests of banana companies.

1930: Engineer Richard Drew, working at the 3M company, invents the transparent adhesive tape (sellotape).

1943: Italy “hands over its weapons” and officially. In Athens and other cities, as soon as the Greeks hear the news, they start celebrating. Along with them are many Italians who are opposed to Mussolini and the fascist regime of their country.

1993: The Mitsotakis government relies on a marginal majority of one MP, after the independence of Stefanos Stephanopoulos, who, at the urging of Antonis Samaras, decides to separate his position from New Democracy.

2003: David Bowie makes history as he gives the first interactive concert. The concert is broadcast via satellite to 21 cinemas around the world and viewers have the opportunity to talk to him and ask him for tributes.
