The proposal of the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, for the appointment of Anna Stratinaki as the new Consumer Advocate was approved by a majority of the members of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Parliament.

At the next meeting of the Council of Ministers it will be proposed by Minister of Development to undertake these duties immediately.

As stated in the announcement, the minister in his presentation before the members of the Commission referred to Ms. Stratinaki’s rich resume, her experience from other key positions and the reasons why she was nominated for the crucial position of Consumer Advocate.

During the presentation, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that the Ministry of Development, as well as the Government as a whole, supports the Independent Authorities with all its might, as it has done with the Independent Competition Authority, which it strengthens with the approval of 50 new recruits. It does the same for the Consumer Advocate, as it acquires a special role. He spoke about the need to further strengthen the role of the Consumer Advocate and satisfy a series of requests to improve the infrastructure available to him.

Earlier, the minister held a meeting with the outgoing Consumer Advocate, Lefteris Zagoritis, who was accompanied by the Deputy Advocate, Vasiliki Bolou and the Assistant Advocate, Efthymios Tsigas.

Mr. Zagoritis submitted to Mr. Theodorikakos the report of the Independent Authority for 2023 and the Minister of Development thanked him warmly for the very important work he did for ten consecutive years in this very important institution.
