An archaeological treasure was hidden in their homes, in areas of Imathia, by three people, as revealed by an investigation by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Directorate of Security of Thessaloniki.

Two of them were arrested – a 34-year-old Greek man and a 40-year-old Bulgarian woman – while the third (55-year-old citizen and foreigner’s spouse) was identified and included in the same case file.

In total, eleven ancient objects from ancient burials of the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods (500-150 BC) were found and confiscated in their possession, as well as 142 bronze coins and a bronze belt buckle dating from the Classical to the Ottoman period. years (400 BC – 18th century).

According to experts’ assessments, all the above objects fall under the protective provisions of the law for the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general and are considered of special archaeological value.

The police also confiscated two books, five metal detectors with their accessories and two portable transceivers. Those arrested are being taken to the competent prosecutor, while investigations into the arrest of the third accused continue.
