The amount of 101.53 million euros will be received by Greece from the EU Solidarity Fund for the disasters caused by the bad weather “Daniel”, after the decision of the Council of Ministers.

In particular, today the Council of Ministers agreed to mobilize the European Union Solidarity Fund to provide assistance to Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and France, in relation to six natural disasters that occurred in 2023. The assistance will come from the EU budget for 2024.

The European Union Solidarity Fund will be mobilized for a total amount of EUR 1,028.54 million in commitment and payment appropriations, including the amount of EUR 231.78 million as advances, of which respectively:

  1. 101.53 million euros for the provision of aid to Greece following the floods caused by the Mediterranean storm “Daniel” in many locations in central Greece, particularly in the Thessaly region, in September 2023, including the amount of €25.38 million as an advance payment
  2. EUR 446.64 million for assistance to Italy following floods caused by extremely heavy rainfall in the Emilia-Romagna region in May 2023 (€378.83 million), including the amount of €94.71 million as an advance, and in the Tuscany region in October and November 2023 (67.81 million euros)
  3. EUR 428.41 million for aid to Slovenia following flooding caused by heavy rains across the country in August 2023, including the amount of €100 million as an advance
  4. 20 million euros to provide aid to Austria following flooding caused by heavy rainfall in its southern regions in August 2023 and
  5. €46.76 million for aid to France following flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in November 2023, including an amount of €11.69 million as an advance.
